The original 1987 FZR400 (Genesis) was Yamaha's first 400 cc sports bike on an aluminium Deltabox frame, with a high-revving liquid-cooled four. It was cheaper and sharper-handling than rival Honda and Kawasaki 400s, which made it a favourite for racing and track days, though the engine is weak below about 5000 rpm.
